We just found out that our 2010 Zinfandel just won Gold Medal in the Amateur Zinfandel category at the Sonoma-Marin Fair! We are more than excited for this news as we’ve all put our heart and soul into taking care of the 400 grape plants in our small vineyard. Dane can often be found tending to the grapes in the early morning hours. He believes in a fully organic wine making process and goes to great lengths to prune, train, cultivate and communicate with the grapes until they tell us they’re ready to be picked! For us, it’s no surprise that our Zin has been honored with such a prize because the grapes sure do get all the love they deserve. Also, let us know if you’re ever staying here or in the area if you’d like a tour from Dane on the whole process!
The wine can be seen on display during the fair June 20th – 24th. We hope you can all attend and see what amazing amateur wines are to enjoy from all around our area!
The rest of the celebration is your usual county fair with the requisite agricultural displays and competitions, carnival rides, entertainment and fair food. Being in wine country, it does have a greater emphasis on food and wine. It’s like a hometown fair, but personally I like going to hometown fairs like this when I’m a tourist, because they give you a great insight into the community. And if you visit the Sonoma-Marin Fair you might just get a glimpse of the sense of pride—and wackiness—that locals here hold dear.
